Specifications include, but are not limited to: A. Target One Educator Dyslexia Awareness Training Opportunities The contractor will be required to design and make available various opportunities for all North Dakota K-3 educators to gain a basic understanding including but not limited to the following to assist the State in achieving the objectives of this project: 1. Learn what dyslexia is/isn’t 2. Learn what a person with dyslexia experiences in the classroom and other daily activities. 3. Learn what a parent of a child with dyslexia experiences, and how to support families to support their child. 4. Communication strategies for effective school/family support. 5. Recognize the signs of dyslexia. 6. Understand the difference between screening and further assessment of dyslexia. 7. Understand modifications, accommodations, and supports for students with dyslexia. B. Target Two: Building Dyslexia Support Systems Development Training Opportunities The contractor will be required to develop and provide opportunities for school literacy leadership team members to design a systemic plan to meet the requirements of NDCC 15.1-32-26 though implementing: 1. Dyslexia screening 2. Further diagnostic processes to identify skill deficits for intervention 3. Establishing Intervention pathways including selecting appropriate intervention tools 4. Monitoring for improvement C. Target Three: Advanced Instructional Techniques to Support Students with Dyslexia The contractor will be required to develop and provide opportunities for reading specialists, special education teachers, interventionists and other educators providing reading instruction to learn instructional techniques that are beneficial to students with skill deficits typical of dyslexia.
