Specifications include, but are not limited to: A. Provide repairs indicated. B. Repair Class I: 1. Remove loose exterior and interior paint. 2. Remove and repair sashes. a. Gaps and Loose Joints: Tighten moving joints in sashes. Inject adhesives into holes drilled into joints. 3. Repair window frame. 4. Weatherstrip and reinstall sashes. 5. Reglaze sashes by replicating methods and final appearance used in similar existing windows. 6. Paint C. Repair Class II: Perform Class I repairs and the following: 1. Wood Damage: Repair as indicated for wood which is split, checked, or shows signs of rot. a. Dry affected wood components. b. Treat decayed areas with a fungicide. c. Waterproof with three applications of boiled linseed oil. d. Fill cracks and holes with patching putty. D. Repair Class III: Perform Class I and Class II repairs and the following: 1. Replace deteriorated parts with new matching pieces. 2. Splice new wood onto existing members. A. Remove sashes from the frames for inspection and restoration. Existing storm windows shall remain in place while interior windows are removed and restored. B. Once the interior window is restored and reinstalled, then the storm windows may be removed and exterior work may proceed. C. The sash and any other parts of the frame removed will be labeled for reinstallation in their original location. D. The sash shall be restored off site. During the sash’s absence the window opening will be filled and secured with plywood or hardboard insulation filler until the sash is re-installed. 1. The building must remain secure and weathertight at all times. E. If the paint on the sash is failing, or thick, or has a rough finish, or tests positive for lead, the paint will be stripped completely either by steam stripping or infrared heat. Glass shall be protected during any heating operations. F. The putty shall be completely removed on all windows, glass removed and window to be reglazed. 1. Mark each piece of glass for location and orientation so that each pane is replaced in the same location and orientation as existing. G. The sashes will be inspected, and necessary repairs made as noted on the Scope of Work document. 1. Repairs shall consist of either epoxy consolidation or wood patches depending on the nature of the damage. 2. In all repairs made with wood patches the wood will be the same species as the wood used in the original sash. 3. If repair work is required at the joints, the joints will be separated, repaired, reassembled and pinned. Joints will not be glued together or repaired in any way that results in the joint being permanently fixed.
