Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Town of Chittenden is seeking design engineering proposals to replace an existing structure located on Holden Road near the junction with Beebe Hill. The existing structure is a three-sided rigid frame, with laid up stone abutments and a concrete slab ceiling. It has a clear span of 3.5 feet and a clear height of 4.5 feet, providing a waterway opening of 15.8 square feet. A hydraulic study was completed on November 22, 2023 and recommends a concrete box with an inside opening span of 8 feet and a minimum height of 6.5 feet or,depending on the need to raise the roadway height due to low height from the streambed to the road, a pipe arch with a clear span of 8.6 feet and a height of 5.9 feet. Any similar structure that fits the site conditions could be considered. Flared wingwalls and concrete headwalls at the inlet and outlet are recommended. The final structure design shall be approved by the Agency of Natural Resources River Management Engineer and meet the 2019 Town Road and Bride Standards. Engineering services should include a Topographical Survey and Existing Conditions Site Plan, a Hydraulic Assessment and Structure Evaluation, Civil Site Design Phase Engineering Services, Permitting Phase Services (State of Vermont and US Army Corps of Engineering), Engineer’s Opinion of Probable Construction Cost, Bid Phase Services and Construction Phase Services. It is expected that there will be regular meetings/site visits and communications as the project proceeds.
