The Town of Durham is seeking to prequalify potential contractors for the removal of the Mill Pond Dam and associated restoration of the Oyster River. The project includes the removal of the Mill Pond Dam concrete spillway and fish ladder; excavation, characterization, dewatering, and off-site disposal of sediment deposits; and restoration of the Oyster River channel and floodway incorporating stream-simulation design, channel bank bioengineering, and floodplain plantings. Stream simulation design components include a stone cross-vane (or “riffle crest”), stone J-hooks, boulder features, root wads, log vanes, and coir log banks. As the project consists of in-river work to be completed “in the dry,” it also includes control of water during construction: installation, maintenance, and removal of temporary cofferdams; a flume diversion of the river around the active work area; and work area dewatering and sediment removal.
