Specifications include, but are not limited to: Scope of work –Sawmill Scope The Vermont Agency of Transportation, hereinafter referred to as AOT, is seeking contractor services to convert logs to timbers, boards, and dimensional lumber. AOT currently cuts thousands of trees a year and is looking for additional avenues to utilize this precious resource. Currently AOT harvests hardwood trees for firewood to heat many AOT facilities, but does not have a constant use for softwood trees. Many of the AOT facilities consistently need or request building materials for roadway work, facility upgrades and sideboards for dump trucks. Having the capability to have the logs sawed into timbers, boards and dimensional lumber not only provides a use for the logs we cut but also reduces the amount of money we invest in building materials. Stationary Mills- (fixed location) AOT will provide transport of logs to and from stationary sawmill sites. The contractor is responsible for the unloading of logs and loading of processed timber, dimensional lumber, and boards, unless an AOT representative deems otherwise. The contractor shall be directed by an authorized AOT representative on the necessary dimensions that the logs need to be cut and what type of product is needed. If plane work options are available an AOT representative will have the option to have the lumber planed as well. Portable Mills- (Mill brought to AOT site) AOT will provide a designated area within the State of Vermont right of way to set up and perform milling operations. AOT will also provide transport of logs to and from the designated site. Traffic control (if necessary) shall be provided by AOT district garage staff.
