Specifications include, but are not limited to: The City of Lewiston is seeking bids for removal and recycling of scrap metal and lead acid batteries. Interested contractors may bid on either materials or any of the two (2) materials they may be interested in. 10.02 Definitions: a. Scrap Metal – includes white goods (large appliances, such as refrigerators, freezers, wall mounted air-conditioners, stoves, washing machines, etc.) and other waste metals generated through small maintenance & construction / demolition projects. Scrap Metal does not include engines, gear boxes, or enclosed tanks / vessels, which contain chemicals or lubricants. b. Lead – acid battery – a secondary cell battery, which contains lead and an electrolyte. Lead – acid batteries are commonly used to start trucks, automobiles and other motorized vehicles but are also used in other devices which require an electrical current for operation. c. Gross ton equals 2,240 pounds (long ton). d. Net ton equals 2,000 pounds.
