Specifications include, but are not limited to: Dewater excavations before placing concrete. Dewater in a manner that will not create subsidence or ground loss that might adversely affect the work or existing structures. 3.5.2 If water inflow or sidewall instability encountered exceeds an amount acceptable to the LES project inspector, alternative means will need to be used to complete the work. 3.5.3 If poor conditions exist, LES may require the drilled pier to extend deeper into the soil. This extended depth shall be filled with un-reinforced concrete and a price per foot will be paid based upon the option prices in the Proposal. 3.5.4 Place concrete as soon as practical after completion of excavation. Concrete shall be poured the same day as excavation unless otherwise approved by the LES project inspector. Guide placement of free-fall concrete so as not to hit the reinforcement, sidewalls, or anchor bolt assemblies. 3.5.5 Place concrete in drilled piers in one continuous operation. 3.5.6 Consolidate concrete using concrete vibrators in conformance with ACI 309. 3.5.7 Where concrete will be exposed to view after construction, use smooth face steel forms or smooth face exterior grade plywood at least 5/8" thick. Use 3/4" chamfer strips where concrete will have exposed projecting corners. All forms shall be adequately braced to prevent perceptible deflection. All forms shall be held plumb, level, and true to line. 3.5.8 Concrete forms shall be left in place until concrete has acquired sufficient strength to support its own weight and any other possible loads. Do not use patched forms for exposed concrete surfaces. Clean and repair surfaces of forms to be reused in the work. Split, frayed, delaminated, or otherwise damaged forms will not be acceptable. 3.5.9 All exposed concrete surfaces shall receive a steel trowel finish. 3.5.10 When temperature is 90o F or above, follow the recommendations of ACI 305 Hot Weather Concreting. 3.5.11 When temperature is 40o F or below, follow the recommendations of ACI 306 Cold Weather Concreting. 3.5.12 Concrete washout location will be coordinated with LES project inspector on site. 3.6 ANCHOR BOLTS 3.6.1 Anchor bolt cages shall be set and welded as specified on the project drawings prior to construction of the foundation. 3.6.2 The threaded portion of the anchor bolts shall be covered during concrete placement. 3.6.3 Anchor bolt cages shall be set in the open shaft prior to the placement of concrete...
