Specifications include, but are not limited to: The work in this project consists of the rehabilitation of brick sidewalk throughout the City of Saco. The City of Saco Public Works will identify areas and or segments of brick sidewalk that has been identified as needing replacement. Contractor Work includes but is not limited to: removal of existing brick, installing bituminous concrete, placement of steel sheet piles to protect sidewalk from root intrusion as needed, sand bedding, installation of edging, installation of new bricks (provided by the City of Saco), traffic control (provided by the City of Saco), mobilization and any other incidental work. The City of Saco Public Works may remove all brick driveways and install bituminous concrete prior to project. Brick Removal This item shall cover all existing brick removal and palletization of the existing brick sidewalk, labor, equipment, grading, compaction, bituminous concrete paving, and any other incidentals needed to properly rebuild the brick sidewalk in accordance with the project plans. Subbase and Base Course: Unless otherwise provided, the subgrade shall be brought to a condition of uniform stability and compaction for the full width of the sidewalk by grading and compaction operation and shall be maintained to a tolerance not above or 3 inches below the required grade and cross section. The surface shall be compacted to uniform density and stability and graded to the extent that puddles water will not form. Any additional material required as a result of low subgrade shall be furnished and placed by the contractor. Subbase and base course materials shall be placed as shown on the plans and each layer thoroughly compacted. Bituminous pavement base material shall be placed on the compacted base course prior to placement of bedding materials. The bituminous base material shall be compacted with a power roller having a minimum total weight of 2,000 pounds with a minimum of 65 pounds per inch of width of the drive roll or by satisfactory poser vibrator compaction equipment. In areas inaccessible to other equipment, hand tamping will be permitted. In any case the bituminous sidewalk material shall be uniformly compacted. Brick Sidewalk Installation This item shall cover all brick installation of new brick, labor, equipment, edging, joint sand, sweeping, compaction, and any other incidentals needed to properly rebuild the brick sidewalk in accordance with the project plans. New bricks will be provided by the City of Saco. Backing of bricks upon completion shall be considered incidental. Bricks shall be palletized or stored in another manner to prevent damage to the bricks. Contractor shall designate location to store bricks during construction. New bricks will be supplied by the City of Saco. Both edges shall have a sailor course border. Edges shall be secured by an approved edge restraint.
