Specifications include, but are not limited to: • Contact and confer with members of the Kansas Legislature for the purpose of educating them on the Board’s positions, concerns, and/or support for related legislation. • Study proposed legislation to determine possible effects on the Board’s interests. • Confer with legislators and other public officials to emphasize supposed weaknesses or merits of specific bills to influence passage, defeat, or amendment of measures, or introduction of legislation more favorable toward the Board’s interests. • Contact individuals or groups having similar interests to the Board’s to encourage them to contact legislators and present views. • Plan and coordinate meetings between the Board, Board Office staff, and elected officials to discuss legislative issues and proposals and allow officials to respond to the Board’s concerns. • Develop positions in Board’s best interests. • On the Board’s behalf, prepare, produce, and distribute reports on legislative events and activities, as well as the current status of state bills of interest during legislative sessions. • Provide written and oral status reports, as requested, or deemed appropriate by Board leadership. • Assist the Board and Board Office staff in preparing for appearances at legislative hearings relating to issues that may potentially impact the Board. • Assist the Board and Board Office staff in gaining access to key governmental leaders. • Demonstrate an understanding of and support the current and future needs of the Board. • Assist the Board in setting priorities as needed.
