Specifications include, but are not limited to: The following will be the various types of capture events and processes the contractor may be asked to perform: Capture and sling - Helicopter netgun capture and helicopter transporting of animals back to a staging area for processing by UDWR staff. Depending on the specific project and the necessary data collection, companies may be limited to only bringing 2–3 animals at a time. Sling distances will vary depending on animal and staging area locations, but in general will be 8 miles or less. Capture and collar/process - Helicopter netgun capture and process animals at or near the capture site with no involvement from UDWR other than determining how many to capture in each area and supplying processing materials. Processing may include but is not limited to attaching radio collars, collecting blood, disease, and fecal samples, and taking various body measurements including age, weight, and skeletal measurements. Capture and shuttle - Helicopter netgun capture and process animals at or near the capture site involving ferrying UDWR and/or other project collaborators (i.e., university researchers, other state wildlife agency biologists) to or near the capture site to assist with data collection and processing once animals are captured. Captures using drive nets or corral traps – Capture crew will use their helicopter to herd animals into drive nets, corral traps, or funnel traps set up by UDWR personnel. Capture crew muggers may be requested to assist with these captures. We typically only use this method for pronghorn in southern UT, but it could be used for other species in other parts of Utah if needed.
