The system shall meet the requirements of the 2023 Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) 11th Edition. The system shall consist of two components. The first component is the controller unit to be installed in the pedestrian signal head. The second component is the pushbutton unit. The control unit shall be designed to fit inside a 16" clam shell style pedestrian signal head. The unit shall be powered by the 120-vac supplied to the walk and don't walk signals and shall provide power to the pushbutton unit. The unit shall have terminal blocks for connection of all wires. The unit shall provide a pulsed 15 vdc to power the vibrator in the pushbutton unit, shall detect a walk/don't walk conflict, have an audio amplifier of 10 w rms into 8 ohms and have volume control for the locator tone and audible message. The volume shall adjust automatically up to a maximum volume of 89 db. Tones shall automatically adjust to be no more than 5 db above the ambient noise of the intersection. All sounds levels shall adjust automatically in response to ambient noise over a 60-decibel range.
