Specifications include, but are not limited to: 2 pine straw/mulch applications per year. The first application of pine straw/hardwood mulch will be completed between July 21 and August 21, in preparation for the start of the school year. That application will cover approximately 70% of the bed space of the spring application. 100% coverage will be required in the spring after the fall/winter leaf pickup. Separate aerial mapping will differentiate between 70% and 100% coverage. Start of the spring application will start no sooner than March 15th and will need to be completed by April 15th of each year, unless the GSU-Grounds manager approves. The omitted 30% will be comprised of areas that are considered remote, receive little to no foot traffic and areas where deciduous plant material has grown dense enough to cover up open areas, these areas will be designated by GSU grounds department during the walkthrough. Deep bed edging will not be required prior to the application. Weed control will not be the responsibility of the pine straw/mulch contractor. Both Long Needle and Slash pine straw will be priced as options for GSU. Pine straw will be applied at a depth of 4”. The hardwood mulch will be brown in color and applied at a depth of 3” for both applications during the year. Mulch should not come in contact with the tree trunk, instead leave the root flare exposed (4”-6” diameter around the trunk is acceptable).
