The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) is soliciting applications from organizations to implement and expand clinician health system engagement and linkage to care through the Wisconsin Dental Pain Protocol (WDPP program). Using a framework of a state and local collaboration, funded recipients will implement and advance education of clinicians on best practices for acute, subacute, and chronic dental pain, including opioid prescribing, as described in the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Pain – United States, 2022 with the WDPP program. WDPP links people who visit a hospital emergency department or urgent care center with non-traumatic dental pain (NTDP) to local dental care. A primary focus should be maximizing opportunities in all health care encounters, especially from emergency departments to link patients with evidence-based care.
