Specifications include, but are not limited to: The following describes the minimum specifications for manhole frames and covers. The product proposed shall be of new, current design production model and available to the commercial market. The City will consider proposals that meet exact or equal specifications: The metal used in the manufacture of municipal castings shall be ASTM A-48, Class 35B Gray Iron. Castings shall meet the requirements of ASHTO M-306. Castings shall be manufactured true to pattern; component parts shall fit together in a satisfactory manner. They shall be of uniform quality, free from sand holes, shrinkage, cracks, or other defects They shall be smooth well cleaned by shot-blasting and furnished without paint. All circular manhole frames and covers shall be furnished with machined horizontal bearing surfaces. The manufacturer’s shop drawing shall be submitted to the City Engineer for approval prior to the manufacture or shipment of castings. The City Engineer retains the right to reject castings not conforming to this specification. Manhole covers shall be furnished with markings as indicated in the attached sample shop drawing. Manhole frames and covers shall be made in the U.S.A.
