Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Town of Munster is going to construct a trail beginning in Munster, south of Schoon Ditch near the intersection of Fisher Street and Crestwood Ave in the NIPSCO Corridor (approximately 41°33'7.0"N, 87°28'55.7"W). The Trail will begin at the existing trail that ends on the west side of Hart Ditch and will connect to the Town of Highland on the east side of the Cady Marsh Ditch near the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Parkway Drive in the NIPSCO Corridor (approximately 41°33'7.5"N, 87°28'46.9"W). Additionally, the proposed trail segment will eventually have a leg going south toward Martha Street through the NIPSCO corridor that is located between the Cady Marsh Ditch and Hart Ditch. This fully ADA compliant, non-motorized (bike/pedestrian) trail is anticipated to be a 12-foot wide, asphalt trail, constructed on grade within the floodway of Hart Ditch/Cady Marsh Ditch. The trail will include two separate steel truss pedestrian bridges. Each bridge will be a single span structure to cross the Hart Ditch and Cady Marsh Ditch. The bridges will not have any piers within the waterway. The trail will cross Hart Ditch, set down on grade within the floodway, have a “T” intersection for the south leg to Martha Street through the NIPSCO Corridor, cross Cady Marsh Ditch, and then set back down on grade on the Town of Highland side. The proposed corridor is contained entirely within the NIPSCO Corridor. The existing Munster portion of the trail is located within this corridor. For this reason, coordination with NIPSCO and any other utility companies will be required throughout the construction of this project.
