Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. Hospital Services: • Food and lodging for up to four days (up to 10 days for rabies observation and bite hold as requested by police or Animal Control). • Stool tests. • Flea and/or tick treatment as needed. • Exams by veterinarians as needed. • Intestinal parasite treatment as needed. • Minor medical treatment as deemed necessary by the Animal Hospital’s veterinarian. • Euthanasia and cremation. • Release of animals to their owners upon presentation of a release authorization form from the City. 2. Provide a specific number of cages for animal shelter animals: • Maximum of ten (10) cages for dogs, one animal per cage. • Maximum of fourteen (14) cages for cats, one animal per cage. • Spay and neuter services as needed prior to adoption. • Vaccinations including rabies, distemper, and bordetella as needed. • Facilitate dog and cat adoptions. • Heartworm testing (excluding treatment for positive cases). • Feline Immune Deficiency Virus and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV/FIV) testing (excluding treatment for positive cases). 3. Any exams, treatment, or course of action beyond the described care must be approved in advance by an Animal Control Officer or Supervisor and the City, and the Animal Hospital must agree on any additional amounts to be paid by the City for such additional care. 4. Adoptions shall be executed and facilitated in accordance with the laws of the State of Kansas. All animals brought to the Animal Shelter shall be held for a period of four (4) days, as required by the State's three (3) day stray hold regulation. If the animal is not adopted within this period, the animal becomes the property of the Animal Shelter. Upon becoming the property of the hospital, the responsibility for the animal's adoption and the collection of any associated adoption fees shall rest with the Animal Shelter. The City shall not incur any boarding fees or be responsible for adoptions following the initial four (4) day hold period. If the City agrees to retain responsibility for the animal beyond the four (4) day hold period, a boarding fee of $20.00 per day for cats and $29.00 per day for dogs will be incurred by the City, payable by the fifteenth (15th) day of the following month. 5. The City may utilize the kennels in any manner they deem appropriate, including but not limited to housing stray animals, providing temporary shelter for pets in emergencies, and supporting animal control operations. The City shall ensure that all uses comply with applicable laws and regulations and maintain the kennels in good condition.
