Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1.0 SELF-PROPELLED VIBRATORY COMPACTOR Abbreviation Actual Dimension Notes 1.1 The self-propelled vibratory compactor shall be specifically designed for the compaction of asphalt and other select granular materials. 1.2 The front and rear frame pivot shall allow at least +/- 9° degrees of oscillation from horizontal. 1.3 Operating weight shall be a minimum of 3,628 kg (8,000 lb.) including 80 kg (176 lb.) operator, full fuel tank, full hydraulic system, half full water tank, and standard ROPS. 1.4 Roller must be equipped with a backup alarm. 1.5 Roller shall be equipped with strobe light with on/off switch, visible from 360 degrees. 2.0 ENGINE/POWERTRAIN Abbreviation Actual Dimension Notes 2.1 Must have a liquid cooled four-cylinder diesel engine with electric start that is a tier IV certification (minimum). Bidders shall certify that each equipment engine supplied pursuant to this RFQ, and contract will meet Tier 4 emission standards certification in accordance with 40 CFR Part 1039. Information is required with bid. 2.2 Exhaust emissions and noise level shall comply with all applicable Federal and State of Maine standards. 2.3 The heavy-duty four-cylinder diesel engine shall have a minimum rating of 42hp. 2.4 Shall include an efficient dry-type air filter with visible air restriction meter. 2.5 Shall have ample capacity for continuous high engine output under extreme temperatures and/or operating conditions. 2.6 Coolant shall come rated for -30° degrees. 2.7 The engine shall utilize a pre-heat feature to assist starting in cool weather. 2.8 The engine speed shall be controlled by a three-position throttle lever, consisting of low, intermediate, and high. 2.9 The propulsion system shall be hydrostatically driven closed circuit with a single lever control for direction and speed. 2.10 The propel speed shall be infinitely variable from 0 to 8 mph in both forward and reverse. 2.11 The hydraulic propulsion lever’s regulating curve shall provide smooth and precise control at all speeds. 2.12 Provisions for bypassing (releasing) the hydraulic brake system, to allow the unit to be towed in the event of engine or hydraulic failure, shall be supplied. 2.13 Electrical hour meter (Hobbs preferred) wired in such a way to operate only when the engine is running. 2.14 Engine shall have spin-on type filters for oil, coolant, and fuel. 3.0 VIBRATORY SYSTEM Abbreviation Actual Dimension Notes 3.1 The vibratory system shall provide a minimum of two frequencies of 48 Hz (2,880 vpm) and 53 Hz (3,180 vpm) with an amplitude of 0.50 mm (0.020”). 3.2 Frequency selection shall correspond to the intermediate speed and high-speed throttle positions. 3.3 The centrifugal force shall not be less than 29.5 kN (6,638 lb.). 3.4 A standard auto-vibe function shall start and stop the drum vibration when the propel lever is removed from the neutral position. 3.5 The standard auto-vibe system shall prevent the machine from being started when the vibratory switch is in the active mode. 3.6 The vibratory system shall include a vibration delay on the rear drum. This feature shall control the start of the rear drum to assist power management on slopes. 3.7 A vibratory selection switch shall provide vibratory capability on the front, rear, or both drums or no vibratory action.
