1.4.1 Meet with institutional leadership, faculty, staff, students and external stakeholders to gain an understanding of the institution’s history and culture, structure and operations, and strategic direction. 1.4.2. Identify key opportunities and challenges that the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences faces, and the type of leadership needed to fill the position. 1.4.3. Evaluate the competitive strengths and weaknesses of the national market for the position opening. 1.4.4. Employ creative strategies, research techniques, and a variety of channels to identify and recruit potential candidates who might not otherwise be aware of the opportunity. 1.4.5. Develop written information about the position, including a position description and profile document that identifies the basic responsibilities, reporting relationships, desirable experience, and professional characteristics required of candidates. 1.4.6. Identify and develop roles and responsibilities for all phases of the search process. 1.4.7. Assist with the development of a communications plan for the search. 1.4.8. Manage candidate inquiries and educate prospective candidates about the position and the leadership needs of the institution through email, phone calls, in-person meetings, and through the distribution of information and materials. 1.4.9. Create and manage the respective advertising efforts after outlets and associated costs are approved by WSU. 1.4.10. Assist with the screening and vetting of candidates for further consideration. 1.4.11. Attend meetings with members of the committee and staff and prepare agendas and schedules. 1.4.12. Guide the Search Committee through a critical evaluation of candidates and assist with interviewing and recommending candidates to the Provost and Executive Vice President. 1.4.13. Maintain schedules and timetables throughout the search process. 1.4.14. Assist with travel arrangements for candidates and assist with other logistical arrangements, as necessary. 1.4.15. Provide regular progress reports to the Search Committee. 1.4.16. Conduct on-list and off-list comprehensive references as requested by the Provost and Executive Vice President (not including a formal background check which will be conducted by Washington State University). 1.4.17. Assist, if requested, with the negotiations to encourage a selected individual to accept the position.
