The Maryland Department of Health (MDH or the Department), Center for Environmental, Occupational, and Injury Epidemiology, is issuing this Request for Applications (RFA) to provide one Maryland academic institution with funding not to exceed $118,000 to partner with the Maryland Violent Death Reporting System (MVDRS), a statewide surveillance system that organizes and maintains a detailed body of information concerning the circumstances of violent deaths that occur in the state of Maryland. The Maryland academic institution selected will identify and develop promising practices to increase local health department and other community stakeholder use of violent death circumstance data provided by MVDRS to inform intervention to decrease homicide and suicide, to reduce disparities in violent death, and to improve health equity in Maryland. The MVDRS is a subsidiary of the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS) and is administered and funded by the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
