We seek to understand the types of solutions available as well as potential issues and key considerations for implementation. In summary, the goal is to seek information on how to better enrich the State’s disease reporting systems through implementation of a cloud-based software solution that can efficiently manage and track disease surveillance and outbreak responses. The ideal solution would also include being capable of connecting, linking, and exchanging data with other existing health information systems while adhering to the highest standards of data security and privacy practices. As such, the Department of Health (“DOH”) is focused on modernizing the Hawaii EDSS to 1) enable the secure, bidirectional exchange of epidemiological and disease surveillance data, and to 2) improve interoperability across multiple aligned public health programs throughout the State. This system is envisioned to integrate a variety of State-wide disease surveillance sources throughout the community.
