1. The Supervising Physician will provide oversight of one athletic trainer by providing immediately available instruction via phone, text, and/or videophone that is adequate to ensure the safety and welfare of patients any time there is practice or game, to include after regular business hours and weekends. The Athletic Trainer will need a response to that communication as soon as possible, within 3-4 hours. per the definition of supervising physician in the Maryland Athletic Trainer State Act. a. This includes the personal cell phone number or pager for emergency contact by the athletic trainer. b. These interactions will likely be 1-4 times a month, on a consult basis. 2. The Supervising physician will need to provide oversight of the athletic trainer quarterly to include relevant updates related to the field of athletic training and to review athletic training services, 4 charts. 3. Both Athletic Trainer and Supervising Physician must agree upon and sign physicians directed protocols and standing orders for the Athletic Trainer to follow in the running of the Athletic Training Program 4. Must provide a qualified physician when not available for periods of time, such as vacation. 5. The Supervising Physician must also sign the State Licensing documentation for the Athletic Trainer’s license to become activated fully.
