he Waterways Program (GDOT) has recently completed a beneficial re-use of dredged material study involving the GDOT Research Office, Ga. Southern University and the Dean Forrest Land Fill. This study was focused on the use of dredged material as an option for the required cover materials for landfills. This material has also been used for brick production, sandbag fill, as well as being used as fill material for the Back River Bridge replacement project. GDOT is trying to determine if there are Contractors who would be interested in obtaining and beneficially re-using dredged material. This material is located on properties in Jasper County S.C.,and would only cost 0.35 cents per cubic yard. Currently GDOT owns 7000 + acres where dredged material from maintenance dredging of the Savannah Harbor shipping channel is deposited. The soil types represented in these DMCA’s range from sand to organic silts.
