The purpose of this project is to improve transit speed and reliability on Route 60 by implementing capital improvements within the existing right-of-way in key segments. The primary goal is to improve average travel times by up to 15% during peak hours. This Project will also address passenger amenity enhancements at key bus stops and improve pedestrian and bicycle access and safety to/from bus stops. The improvements included in this project will prioritize transit, safety, and multimodal treatments to improve speed and reliability and access to transit along the corridor. Metro Connects, King County Metro’s long-range public transportation vision, 2021, identified a robust set of improvements to the King County Metro transit network to be completed by 2050. Route 60 was identified in the Metro Connects Vision as a “Frequent Corridor” meaning this route should have a high level of reliable, easy-to-use service all day, every day. In order to support this frequent, reliable transit network, Metro will need to coordinate and align capital improvements along this corridor. This corridor has been prioritized for capital improvements based on ridership, travel time variability, schedule reliability, social equity, and connections to and between regional designated growth centers.
