This request for proposal is intended to provide information to interested persons that, as a supplement to the information from the published advertisement and tour of the offered unit(s), will enable them to prepare a proposal. The information contained in this request for proposal is essential to a good understanding for the work to be done. Approximately 240 acres of pre-commercial thinning has been identified as needing completion. The goal of this project is to improve the residual stand for forest health and productivity, increase fire resistance, maintenance of wildland firefighting fuel breaks, and to improve wildlife habitat. Bid Item 1: 1.1-1.5 can be accessed via the Hwy 89 near Sylvan Lake. 1.6 is accessible from Hwy 87N at the Cathedral Spires trailhead. Units 1.7 & 1.8 are accessible from Hwy 87N approximately 0.5 miles west of America Center Rd. Units 1.9-1.11 are accessible from Hwy 87S via Highland Creek Rd. Units 1.1 – 1.8 will be thinned from below to a variety of densities (see table 2). The objective is to maintain the fuel breaks along paved highways; In addition to piling green material, dead and down material will also be piled: Hanging deadfall should be severed from the stump and must be limbed so that boles are resting on the ground, all cut material < 4 inches in diameter must be placed on green piles. Dead and down material < 4 inches in diameter and at least 3 feet in length, or material < 4 inches in diameter and exceeding 18 inches in height must be limbed and placed on green piles. Units 1.9-1.11 thinned from below to 680 TPA (where stocked). All trees will be pruned to 7’ above ground. In addition to piling green material, dead and down material will also be piled (see above). Bid Item 2: All units are accessible from the Stockade North Campground along US Hwy 16A. Maximum cut DBH is 8” for all units, but only defective trees over 5” DBH should be cut. Units 2.1-2.3 border campsites within the Stockade North Campground. To preserve the visitor experience, green slash will be pulled 50’ from campsites before piling. The pullback boundary is marked with red/white striped flagging and the “no piling” area is denoted in the attached maps with red hash marks. 2.1 will be thinned from below to 1210 TPA, 2.2-2.3 from below to 680 TPA. Units 2.4-2.5 will be cut to 680 and 300 TPA, respectively. In addition to piling green material, dead and down material will also be piled (see above). Bid Item 3: All units in bid item 3 are accessible from CSP resource roads. Unit 3.1 will be thinned from below to 300 TPA. Units 3.2 and 3.3 will be thinned from below to 537 TPA.
