Washington State Skills Centers are an integral part of the education K-12 system, operating as an extension of the high schools within a local region. The primary purpose of Skills Centers is to give students the academic and work skills to successfully enter the job market or advanced education and training. Skills Centers provide cost-effective, quality job training in programs that would be too expensive to offer at every high school. Skills Centers are governed by an administrative council, as outlined in WAC 392-600- 010. This council is responsible for making policy decisions and overseeing the operation of the centers. While Skills Centers benefit from statewide collaboration, they also understand local challenges and can tailor their approach to bridge the gap and expand access for their students. The Washington State Skills Center Association (WSSCA) is the only statewide consortium that includes seventeen (17) skills centers and administrative councils located in multiple geographic areas. They are therefore uniquely qualified to understand the requirements established by law concerning interdistrict cooperative responsibilities, student enrollment requirements, school apportionment, etc...
