Prof. Thevamaran’s research programs require high quality vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (CNTs). However, such material is not available in the marketplace or is very expensive. Those programs are in very urgent need to develop their own synthesis technology to supply the needed nanomaterials for their own use as well as for potential strategic research partners. Therefore, the department needs to acquire a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) system for the synthesis. The required CVD system must have a 5” process tube, a wide and stable temperature range, multi gas delivery system, process vacuum system and vapor delivery to achieve high quality CNTs and graphene. The system must be controlled by a computer with real time information feedback and graphing of process variables and meet the research requirement of precisely controlling all process parameters. The CVT must be a proven and reliable system that is effective for CNT synthesis.
