The scope of services sought, upon appointment by the Court, includes all aspects of representation, including drafting of and responding to motions, legal research, court preparation, etc., during pretrial, sentencing, bench or jury trials, orders to show cause and de novo appeal proceedings. Counsel is most likely to be appointed by the Justice Court Judge. However, there may be occasions when the District Court Judge may appoint the contracted public defense counsel on an indigent defendant’s de novo appeal. The successful bidder shall provide legal defense services with respect to each and every indigent defendant who is appointed legal counsel, except in cases where a conflict of interest exists between counsel and the defendant.
