MassWildlife is soliciting bids from Contractors to conduct firebreak improvements, hazard tree removal, and bridge replacement and improvement at multiple Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) during Fiscal Years 2025/2026 (FY25/26) at the following sites in accordance with the specifications section below. The Contractor shall be responsible for completing all Treatment Units at the properties before the deadline according to the treatment specifications described herein. All acreages/distances were calculated in GIS and are approximate. The Contractor shall be responsible for treating the entirety of the treatment areas as depicted in the accompanying figures and as marked on the ground as described in the final Contract and Notice to Proceed. Contractors are responsible for verifying measurements prior to submitting their bids. The Contractor shall furnish all labor and materials, tools and equipment and do all the work necessary to complete the work in accordance with the Treatment Specifications described herein. Base Bid: Site: Muddy Brook WMA Stream Crossings 1. The Contractor shall furnish and install a total of 4 tons of 3-5” crushed stone at stream crossing #1; 2 tons per approach as outlined below. 2. The Contractor shall furnish and install five (5) 16ft x 4ft hardwood (oak or hickory, other hardwoods must be approved by MassWildlife) timber mats at stream crossing #1 (Fig 2) to allow crossing by a Ford F-350 pick-up (96” wide / 80” wide wheel-base), fully loaded with a water tank. Timber mats shall consist of individual pieces of timber a minimum of 8” X 8” and shall be secured together by a minimum of four (4) 4-foot long, 1-inch diameter metal rods drilled through the entire width of each 4’ wide mat and then tensioned. The metal securing rods shall be drilled one foot from both ends and then every 4-5' down the length of the mats. Two (2) of these mats shall be used as footings, one on each side of the stream crossing. The Contractor shall install 3 inches of the 3-to-5-inch crushed stone under each timber mat footing. The remaining three (3) timber mats will be installed on top of the timber mat footings. The remaining crushed stone shall be installed, graded and leveled at each approach to allow vehicular access to the bridge. Bidders shall provide their per unit cost for crushed stone on the mandatory bid sheet. In the event that additional crushed stone is necessary, MassWildlife will use this figure to verify additional cost requests. 3. The Contractor shall furnish and install a total of 4 tons of 3-5” crushed stone at stream crossing #2; 2 tons per approach as outlined below. 4. The Contractor shall remove three (3) 20ft x 4ft and two (2) 16ft x 4ft timber mats at stream crossing #3 (Fig 2) and move and reset them at stream crossing #2 (Fig 2). The two (2) 16ft x 4ft mats shall be used as footings at stream crossing #2. The footings should be installed on 3 inches of the 3-to-5-inch crushed stone. The three (3) 20ft x 4ft timber mats shall be placed on top of the footings, spanning the stream channel. The remaining crushed stone shall be installed, graded and leveled at each approach to allow vehicular access to the bridge.
