Prior to Ignition - The Contractor Shall: Remove or protect all snags within a 1.5x-tree-length of the containment lines. Doing so will help eliminate the possibility of burning trees falling, the need to cut burning trees, and the fire escaping containment. Snagging may be accomplished by either felling or thoroughly raking around each tree. Ensure that each burn participant understands his/her role and responsibilities and is familiar with the burn unit(s), the containment lines, critical holding areas, LCES, and other pertinent information. Be permitted to initiate the burn if predicted smoke emissions are within the guidelines prescribed by SCFC and all other burn unit plan elements are within prescription. Confirm that all RCW trees indicated on SCPRT provided maps (painted with wide white bands) be adequately raked 10 feet from the base of the tree. If needed, these protective areas around the trees will be further cleaned and wet down by the Contractor. Confirm that park staff has erected Area Closed or Trail Closed signs as necessary to prevent the public from entering the burn unit(s). Evaluate on-site fuel conditions and only burn when conditions are present to achieve the desired burn result as determined and agreed upon by the Contractor and SCPRT PM. NOT burn without first making the appropriate notifications to the SCPRT PM and SCFC. NOT burn on SCPRT property when any of the following conditions are met- unless there is a written agreement between the Contractor and SCPRT PM to burn outside of the below parameters: It’s 6 or more days after a >¼” rainfall event. The Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) > 300 (unless approved by PM) Either 1-hour fuel moisture is below 5% or 10-hour fuel moisture is below 7%. Air temperature is above 85° Fahrenheit. Relative humidity is below 25%. Test Fire – The Contractor Shall: Take a weather reading before a test fire is lit...
