4.1.1 Trench approximately 1500 linear feet to a minimum depth of 63 inches on the JJ&T tract. The trench must be at least 4 inches wide throughout. Bids for this contract are for one trench as depicted on the attached maps and as staked in the field. Length, depths, and other units of measure are provided to give a reasonable perspective of the scope of work being requested. Bidders are responsible for reviewing documents and visiting the site in order to determine the precise dimensions of the project prior to bid submittal. 4.1.2 Clear the trenching path on site. The trench route will be determined and marked by Contractor, with flagging and/or pin-flags just prior to beginning the work. The contractor will only clear the minimum amount necessary to successfully complete the project. The contractor will clear the trench paths of rocks, debris, and other obstacles. All vegetation will be hand-cleared. All cut vegetation shall be chipped and spread onto the trench. No piles of chipped material shall be permitted and mulch depth shall not exceed 2 inches. All cutting tools will be disinfected at the start of each day and between each oak tree. All wounds on all oak species will be sealed with a pruning sealer immediately after they are cut. 4.1.3 be responsible for notifying appropriate agencies and public service infrastructure owners and for locating all public utilities. Hand-digging will be required under and around existing utility lines. Contractor is solely liable for any damages or repairs to public utilities caused by performance of this contract. 4.1.4 be responsible for all necessary traffic controls on public roads. 4.1.5 Conduct routine root zone depth inspections. Should any roots, or soils sufficient to support roots, be found deeper than 5 feet from the surface, then other excavation equipment, such as a backhoe or excavator, shall be required to sever the root systems. Where appropriate, hand digging with a jackhammer will take place in areas not suitable for machinery. Bidders are responsible for reviewing documents and visiting the site prior to bid submittal to adequately account for such possibilities. 4.1.6 Backfilling the cut/trench. All trench lines must be backfilled with the original material/fill from the trench. 4.1.7 All contractor operations shall be accomplished in a manner that will minimize additional disturbance of the site. If at any time the Project Manager or his assigns deems equipment movement is resulting in excessive soil or herbaceous disturbance he may instruct equipment to slow down or conduct work in a manner that will minimize disturbance of the soil surface and herbaceous vegetation. 4.1.8 Begin Work within 14 days of contract award. 4.1.9 provide a detailed list of equipment to be used shall be submitted with the bids. Bids received without this list shall not be considered 4.1.10 Provide a list of applicable work experience with their bid. 4.1.11 Employ only qualified supervisors and workers who are certified and/or skilled to operate equipment needed to perform contracted services. Personnel performing under this contract shall be the direct employees of the contractor. The Contractor shall ensure that all personnel assigned to the work sites have qualified experience applicable to the work to be performed. 4.1.12 Provide and maintain an adequate number of employees to satisfactorily perform the scheduled work within the time allotted. 4.1.13 Provide each employee assigned to this work with proper identification that contains both the names of the Contractor and the employee. All employees shall wear or carry said identification at all times while on City of Austin property. 4.1.14 Designate a responsible (English speaking) representative or representatives in charge of work, who shall be at the work site during all hours of work. No employee(s) of the Contractor shall be permitted on City of Austin property that is not currently open to the public outside of working hours. Any personnel of the Contractor found on City of Austin property outside of working hours, without the permission of the City of Austin, shall be considered trespassing, and are subject to legal sanctions. 4.1.15 Furnish and maintain all equipment necessary to perform the services required. 4.1.16 Be responsible for their equipment. The City of Austin shall not be responsible for any equipment damaged while conducting this work or any lost or damaged equipment left by the Contractor on said properties.
