The applicant should describe how they will structure and provide the following PRR-V services. • How peer support services will be provided in the PRR-V: o Peer support is characterized by respect, mutuality, and equality. Within the PRR-V, peer support is provided by a peer, who not only has lived experience with mental health and/or substance use issues, but uses his or her unique recovery experiences in combination with training to relate and provide support to individuals who use the PRRV. An individual who can empathize by virtue of a common experience supports a peer through a non-hierarchical approach. o How support for veterans’ unique shared cultures and variations specific to an individual veteran’s experiences are addressed as part of the support services. o High quality peer support provided by the PRR-V should be: provide both individually and in a group setting. available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to address the needs of the individuals staying in the PRR-V. provide peer support as needed over the phone to potential or previous guests; these services should be available during hours that meet the needs of the community and the respite. provide peer support services that encourage guests to explore their strengths, barriers, and resources.
