The Contractor will digitize and digitally preserve thirty-six, 8 mm film reels to best museum and archival standards. This includes proper preservation handling of the reels, high quality, non-damaging scanning, color gradings, quality controls, archiving data inspections, 2k or 4k scans as the films allow, LTO -8 data tape preservation of the final product and shipping with proof of insurance in both directions. Experience & Proficiency : The Contractor must have and be able to demonstrate an understanding of and experience with historic films from the beginning of the 20th century. Contractors may be asked to provide references from current or past projects, failure to provide acceptable references, upon request may result in the quote being deemed non-responsive The museum understands that due to the age and nature of the film reels history that not all thirty-six of the reels may be able to be digitized. The Contractor should be experienced and knowledgeable enough in historical home films to recognize the inability of digitizing the films before they are damaged by an attempt. Materials Background : The thirty-six (36) reels are from an early Juneau family and are of early Juneau life, wildlife, and community events between the 1920s through 1949 when the family moved to Washington state. Materials : The museum will provide the films to be digitized but the rest of the equipment should be supplied by the Contractor. Communication : The Contactor will communicate with the Curator of Collections and Exhibitions, Dara Lohnes-Davies, about the status of the reels and discuss digitization options with them as progress on the project or issues in the process arise.
