This is a “Lop and Scatter” contract. The silvicultural prescription for the units is a pre-commercial thin, focusing on thinning of pinyon-juniper from sagebrush, rabbitbrush, and riparian communities. The resulting plant communities will be dominated by sagebrush, mountain brush, and riparian species. All designated trees are required to be thinned. Only areas shown on the project map will be treated. The project areas are identified with GPS unit and PDF maps. It will be the contractors’ responsibility to provide an electronic device that is capable of loading geo-referenced project area pdf format maps. Government staff will identify unit boundaries for the work executed under the contract in areas of resource protection and sensitive boundaries. In areas without sensitive resource concerns, it will be the contractor’s responsibility to identify unit boundaries with the provided geo-referenced maps. The Contractor shall immediately upon entering the project area, begin work, locate control points, section corners, and take such action to prevent their destruction. Forest improvements such as fences, cattle guards, and pipe-lines will be located by the contractor and avoided. Line Item 1 - Lop and Scatter/Whole tree drop– Forest Service Riparian/Sagebrush: 44 acres - ALL juniper species will be felled and slashed. ALL all other conifers < 12 inch DBH will be felled and slashed. Trees will be completely severed from the stump leaving a MAXIMUM stump height no greater than 6 inches measured on the uphill side.
