1. Drivers must be dependable and have a current, valid CDL license. Contractor shall provide a copy of the driving record for the contract drivers. 2. Drivers shall be neat in appearance, be well mannered and report for work prior to the scheduled shift. The Director of Public Works or designee reserves the right to request another driver if the driver is deemed unable to perform the duties of the job satisfactorily. 3. Drivers shall be familiar with machines and equipment needed for winter operations. This includes methods, practices, hazards, and safety precautions and procedures. 4. Drivers must have the ability to operate a front-end loader to load their trucks from a stockpile and also be able to load liquids into liquid tanks on their truck. 5. Contractor to provide telephone number and address for drivers and a name and telephone number for a back-up contact person in the event the primary contact cannot be reached. We frequently communicate with our drivers using texting. 6. Work shall be scheduled and coordinated by the Director of Public Works or designee. Drivers can plan to work Monday to Friday, from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, unless the work schedule is adjusted to accommodate winter operations to include overnight snow removal operations along with work on weekends and holidays. During winter operations, the work shifts will be determined based on the forecast and needs of Augusta Public Works. A typical shift during a snow event could be up to 16 continuous hours with non-standard work hours. We attempt to get drivers at least 8 to 10 hours of time off between work shifts. Based on a forecasted winter event, drivers may be scheduled to come in prior to the anticipated start time to be ready and/or start pre-treating the roads. Drivers are paid from the time they are scheduled to be at work. 7. When we are not plowing snow, drivers will likely be assigned to assist with other winter operations, such as, patching, spot sanding, daytime snow haul, clearing catch basins to accept storm water, equipment maintenance, and brush cutting. 8. This bid also includes an hourly rate for these drivers for times when they may work for the City outside of the continuous weekly rate period or if a driver assists winter operations for snow events and is compensated using the hourly rate as opposed to the weekly rate. Additionally, an overtime rate will be paid if a driver works more than 40 hours in any given work week (our work weeks starts on Monday and ends at midnight the following Sunday). Drivers will be asked to attend winter operations and safety training for some other on-the-job training, as needed. There may also be times in the spring, if we get a late snowstorm that we need to use these drivers to help with plowing. 9. Contract price to include all costs associated with the employees, insurance, workers comp, retirement, income taxes, overhead and profit, etc. 10. If other winter operations support is needed, the City and Contractor may negotiate a reasonable fee for these additional services. Please provide a list of typical winter equipment rates to include operator.
