CONTENTdm provides the following functions that are not found in other products: Customize digital collections website - with integrated tools, one can quickly create a branded look and feel for library’s digital collections website. CONTENTdm makes it easy to customize the site, whether or not programming skills are obtained. Maximize the visibility of resources - CONTENTdm includes automated site maps so Google and other search engines can index the site directly. In addition, one can share metadata with WorldCat using the WorldCat Digital Collection Gateway, a free, selfservice tool integrated with CONTENTdm. From there, end-users can find their way to the local digital collections from WorldCat.org, WorldCat Discovery Services, Google, and through the Archives’ website. Ensure digital collections are around for the long-term - CONTENTdm includes a preservation archive to ensure the library’s master files and digital originals are securely stored in a purposely-built environment. OCLC’s systems regularly inspect the files to ensure that what is sent through CONTENTdm is received back in the future. On the day the content arrives, the vendor’s systems perform quality checks and record the results in a “health record” for each file. These automated systems revisit these quality checks periodically to provide up-to-date reports on the health of the collection.
