Prescription Treatments (All Blocks): 2.5.1 All trees to be treated and released shall be selected by the contractor according to the prescribed treatments and desired residual basal area or trees per acre released in paragraph 2.4.3. 2.5.2 The contractor shall release healthy trees. The most desirable species are bur oak, white oak, chinkapin oak, post oak, black oak, northern red oak, black walnut, hickory species, and all other native tree species. However, given this priority order, it is desirable to retain a diversity of the above species in each stand. 2.5.3 The contractor shall cut and treat with an approved herbicide all autumn olive greater than 6 feet in height and 2 inches DBH along any one stem. 2.5.4 The contractor shall cut all honey locust, eastern red cedar, and ironwood greater than 6 feet in height and 2 inches DBH. 2.5.5 The contractor shall fell all ash 8 inches DBH or greater within 100 feet of a designated trail. See Figure 2 for exact locations of designated trails. 2.5.6 The contractor shall cut down to the ground any hanging or leaning trees that pose a danger and all spring trees created by the contractor must be released. 2.6 Den Tree Specifications (All Stands): 2.6.1 The Department wishes to retain desirable wildlife den trees. Desirable wildlife life trees are: a. living trees, 12 inches DBH or greater, that currently exhibit active den tree characteristics and/or branching characteristics that are favorable turkey roosting sites (average of 3 per acre to 7 per acre maximum), and b. dead or cavity trees, unless they pose a significant danger to the contractor or public...
