Design and Installation of PV Electrical Production System: Analyze energy requirements and determine optimal PV system size and configuration. Design a roof-mounted solar PV system to meet the school’s energy needs based upon the school’s current electrical power consumption/usage and coordinate with RMP and Blue Sky Grant requirements. Structural analysis of roof system to determine any required modifications imposed by PV system loads, snow shadow, etc. Plan for potential use of solar panels as sunshades, replacing existing structures if necessary. Since a significant portion of the project funding is related to Rocky Mountain Power (RMP) Blue Sky Grant program, the design of the Photo Voltaic (PV) system is to be coordinated with RMP’s approved provider. Design and Installation of Battery Storage System: Design battery storage solutions, based upon an analysis similar to points below, ensuring they meet energy storage needs for nighttime operations. Sizing of battery storage to be determined by the following: Identify electrical components that support life safety and emergency backup of crucial components, such as network data related to the phone system, fire alarm system, building security, internet usage, etc. Optimize the sizing of the battery storage system by identifying components in need of continuous electrical service/backup. Evaluate fire protection requirements if batteries are to be installed internal to the school. Plan for showcasing the “Battery Storage System” through design elements like glass enclosures or other means if installed external to the building. Since the project is related to RMP Blue Sky Grant program, the design of the Battery Storage System is to be coordinated with RMP’s approved provider. Architectural Enhancements with STEM/STEAM Themes: Develop cost effective and minimal architectural elements to reflect STEM/STEAM excitement. Develop a new paint scheme for the exterior and interior (main entry and hallways) of the building to reflect STEM/STEAM excitement. Create dashboards for displaying real-time and historical energy production, usage, storage data, and CO2 reduction metrics for educational purposes.
