The abandoned high-temperature hot water (HTHW) generators in Building 610 will be removed and replaced with a 75 MMBtu/hr natural gas-fired HTHW generator, equipped with a variable speed forced draft (FD) fan drive and flue gas stack. The new HTHW generation equipment for Building 610 will be installed on the operating floor and will feature a variable flow primary HTHW pumping system. In addition, the natural gas service to the building will be reestablished and connected to the new HTHW generator. To avoid an outage to the HTHW distribution supply to campus, this project will include provisions for construction phasing, including the addition of hot taps within Building 610 and in the utility tunnel east of Morgan Street. The operating floor and basement ventilation equipment is in poor condition. This project will provide a new makeup air unit sized for the combustion air need of the generator along with new exhaust fans. This project will also install third floor electrical room. The new HTHW generator FD Fan and distribution pump variable frequency drives will be located in this room. Two new Motor Control Centers (MCCs) will be installed outside the new electrical room and replace obsolete MCCs serving the HTHW system throughout the plant. Existing plant loads will be migrated to the new MCCs.
