Per Section 404.22, FS, the Department is obligated to inspect radiation producing machines for operational safety. For those devices used for human medical purposes (medical x-ray systems), the Department checks for both operator and patient safety. As part of evaluating patient safety, the Department must use equipment that accurately assesses that radiation machine output. To perform this task, the Department currently owns Radcal AGMS-D+ sensors, Radcal 10X6-180 ion chambers and Radcal Accu-Gold+ Touch base units. To ensure these devices meet acceptable standards for accuracy and they must be recalibrated annually and maintained to operational status so that their measurements may be used to enforce regulatory standards for machine safety. . In accordance with Chapter 60A-1.045, Florida Administrative Code, the Department’s Bureau of Radiation Control requests authorization to purchase, as a single source, calibration and maintenance services, from Radcal Corporation.
