• Completely remove two (2) old boardwalks which are approximately 2,300 linear feet in length. All material must be hauled off and disposed of by the Contractor. • The Contractor shall install approximately 2,300 linear feet of new boardwalk in footprint of removed walkway. Boardwalk will be constructed of 4”x6”x10’ pressure treated marine grade posts (PTMG) installed every 8’, installed 3’ in ground with 2”x6” PTMG joists throughout boardwalk for composite material decking. 2”x6” PTMG joists shall be placed in 4 locations (2 joists on outside of 4”x6” posts on both sides of boardwalk as a band board and 2 joists running parallel to band boards installed equidistant between band boards and run the length of the boardwalk to support composite walkway planking. Two 2”x6”x5’ PTMG cross supports shall be installed on each 4”x6” post perpendicular to boardwalk walkway to support joists that run the length of the boardwalk (see diagram). 1”x6”x5’ Composite walkway planks shall be installed on top of 2”x6” joists. Overall general decking height shall be at 36” above ground throughout boardwalk, where possible. Boardwalk should never be less than 18” above ground level (except at beginning/end). Overall boardwalk deck width shall be 5’ (60”). Boardwalk shall remain level throughout. • Hardware: o Decking: Decking boards should be secured using stainless steel screws. o All connections other than decking boards should be secured using hotdip galvanized hardware. o Hurricane straps and MSTA flat straps will be installed as needed for stability. • Boardwalk railings will be constructed of 1”x6”x8’ composite planks. One plank on top of 4”x6” posts and one plank on inside of post. Railing will be installed on both sides of boardwalk. Additionally, a 2”x4” PTMG board will run the length of the boardwalk horizontally on both sides approximately halfway between composite planks and handrail. Hog wire panels will be installed on both sides of boardwalk to secure opening between handrail and walkway. Hog Wire panels shall be installed 1.5” above walkway to allow leaf litter to be blown off boardwalk walkway. The hog wire panels will be secured to the 2”x4” PTMG grade board and the 4”x6” posts throughout the boardwalk to secure the opening. The Hog Wire panels will be covered at top of boardwalk by the composite handrails, both on top and on inside. • Site visit is required to bid on this project. See below for scheduling. All work will be inspected by FFS representative before payment. All materials and labor provided by contractor.
