1. Personal Injury or Workers Compensation Litigation Defense and Prosecution of Civil Claims. • Spartanburg is seeking Professional Legal Services related specifically to the defense of personal injury claims and legal actions and the prosecution of civil claims on the behalf of the County, including, but not limited to, claims and actions threatened or pending in the South Carolina Court System. This shall include Appellate Courts, the Federal Court System, including Appellate Courts, and the South Carolina Industrial Commission. • This RFQ will allow Spartanburg County to hire and retain litigation counsel to defend civil claims, including personal injury claims and workers compensation claims asserted against the County and to pursue appropriate counterclaims, and the prosecution of civil claims on behalf of the County. Often this representation is provided through an insurance carrier; however, where no insurance coverage exists or where insurance coverage is denied, the County will need to hire and enter a contract with a law firm directly. 2. Tax Related Matters: • Spartanburg County is seeking Professional Legal Services to provide advise and counsel for multiple tax related matters. Those matters will include Local Option Sales Tax, Capital Project Sales Tax, sales and use tax exemptions thereto, and the consolidation or combination of special taxing districts with special purpose districts or various combinations thereof. 3. Labor Attorney: • Spartanburg County is seeking Professional Legal Services related specifically to labor and employment matters including but not limited to Labor and Employment Law and Litigation, Hearings before Boards and Commissions, Employee Disciplinary Matters, and Routine Labor and Employment Legal Advice and Counsel.
