California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and Maino Construction (as the Contractor) are seeking a qualified Architect of Record who wishes to bid on the Dairy Modernization Project. The Projects involve the design and construction of six separate scopes of work at the Dairy and Poultry Complexes. Dairy Robotic Milking System will consist of Installing (3) new Lely A-5 Robotic Milking systems, along with supporting utilities and infrastructure, design and construction of up to 2600 SF interior Milk House for Robotics System, Installation of Holding Tank and Chiller System, Systems Controls, and Robotic Hay Pusher. Dairy Barn Hay Expansion will consist of design and construction of a new hay barn at the Animal Nutrition Center, including a concrete pad for silage rotation and storage, site grading, form and flatwork, wind screening, and new pre-manufactured steel hay barn, and service road connecting Animal Nutrition Center to backside of the Dairy Complex. Leprino Dairy Creamery Upgrade will consist of replacing aged-out processing equipment and critical operational infrastructure to address food safety concerns, enhance operational capabilities to support enterprise learning opportunities. Critical items to be replaced are new pasteurizer, new cream separator, replace condensate pumps and line to kettle, new automatic cheese cutter, update/repair refrigeration for small aging rooms, cheese aging room shelving, brine tank safety upgrades, ice cream machine repair, replacement of condensate black pipe for stainless steel, shrink tunnel for packaging, and freezer door repairs. If budget allows, additional equipment to be upgraded includes yogurt processing line, yogurt incubator, new ice cream machine, pumps, lot coding machine, curd table, batch pasteurizer, milk bottling line, chemical dosing, Schoelle filler upgrade, ;liquefier, and ripple/variagator pump. Manure Management System of Dairy Lagoons will consist of labor and materials to remediate the following associated Dairy Manure Handing Systems: Dewatering screen separator, shaker and squeeze systems, Lagoon Holding pits and flush System at the Cal Poly Dairy. Consideration of sustainability upgrades to also be included, such as vermifiltration. Egg Packer Replacement will consist of removing existing and installing new egg packer at Poultry Unit and renovate the enriched colony cage system. African Tortoise Relocation Planning will consist of Advance programming, design, and preliminary site work in support of relocation of the African Tortoise Colony from the Poultry Unit to a permanent location adjacent to the Animal Health Center and Ag Student Housing Unit. The AOR will assist the DB in the development and achievement of deliverables. During Phase 1 the Design-Builder (DB) will: complete project definition report that reconciles program, develop a project scope, schedule, and budget; complete schematic design and obtain California State University’s (CSU) Board of Trustee’s (BOT) approval to begin design development; commit to a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) and schedule. Upon receipt of both the BOT approval of the schematic design and the university’s authorization to proceed, Design-Builder shall: continue with the design development; and publish a set of the 50% Preliminary Design (PD) Development Documents.
