Please note: This is a Sole Source Notification. Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Agency intends to enter into a Single Source purchase with Qiagen. Commercially available reagent kits that have all the required reagents to 1) prepare libraries for 10,230 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), 2) enrich the targets with UDI adapters for cluster generation and 3) sequence these libraries using a flow cell on the MiSeq Seguencing instrument. The combination of kits must develop a SNP profile in a format that can be searched in genetic databases (GedMatch and Family Tree DNA). It is imperative the kit results in products that utilize sequencing-by-synthesis (SBS) chemistry for paired-end sequencing. The kit must have been developmentally validated in full by the manufacturer according to SWGDAM guidelines which has been published in peer reviewed journal. We are required to follow the FBI Quality Assurance Standards (QAS) for performing DNA analysis for casework. The requirements for validation of kits is covered under Standard 8 of the QAS requiring that validation precedes the implementation of any new methods used for forensic DNA analysis and that the underlying scientific principles of the method be in a peer-reviewed publication. The ForenSeq Kintelligence kit using the MiSeqFGx sequencing system has a developmental validation published.
