The Vermont Natural Resources Council (VNRC) is seeking assistance in the development of a forthcoming publication to assist forest landowners in Vermont to make informed decisions about the stewardship and management of their land. The publication is intended as an outreach guide and will include chapters on conservation and stewardship options and promoting a land ethic in Vermont. Part of the publication will address the history of our forests, including background recognizing that our forestlands were the traditional homeland of indigenous peoples including the Abenaki and Wabanaki people. The guide will also include background about how land ownership in general involves multiple considerations that require careful attention such as individual property rights, public interest considerations (such as public trust resources), and diversity and equity considerations (such as how to promote equitable access to forestland, land ownership opportunity, and supporting historically marginalized or disadvantaged communities who face barriers to land access and ownership).
