2.3 Contractor Responsibilities and Tasks 1. Generators to be Serviced: 2. Quarterly ( Every Three Months ) Preventive Maintenance A. Electrical System AC and DC All cables will be checked, cleaned and tightened as required. Batteries will be checked for correct specific gravity and distilled water added if necessary. Inspect and test battery charger and/or battery charging alternator for proper operation. Check all breakers, terminations, control panels, control components, warning systems and emergency shutdowns for proper operation. B. Fuel System With the generator set operating, inspect all fuel lines, filters, and fittings for tightness and any fuel leaks. C. Lube Oil System Check oil level and record engine oil pressure. Inspect complete lubricating system for leaks. If unit has lube oil heater, check to insure it is operating properly. D. Cooling System Inspect system for leaks and test coolant for proper coolant mixture and the supplemental coolant additives as recommended by the engine manufacturer in order to maintain a properly balanced cooling system to prevent corrosion, scaling, and premature seal failures. Add coolant mixture as needed. Inspect block heater and connections for proper operation and leaks. Also, inspect all hoses, hose clamps, belts, for leaks, cracks, fraying or any other damage. E. Air System Inspect complete air intake and exhaust systems including louvers/shutters for correct operation with the generator running either in manual or automatic mode. F. Exhaust System Open and drain condensation traps. Check for any exhaust restrictions. Inspect system for leaks and check all mounting hardware and tighten as necessary. Check rain cap condition for proper operation when engine is running and stopped. G. Generator Set Manually operate generator set at no load and verify that generator is producing rated AC voltage and frequency and all control panel instruments and gauges are functioning. H. Transfer Switch Inspect and test transfer switch to insure that it automatically starts the generator and is transferring properly, set for exercising periods and running a cool down cycle.
