KU is soliciting electronic bids from well-qualified suppliers to provide a Mobile Grain Engulfment Training Simulator Trailer (“Training Simulator Trailer”) for use by the Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institution (“KFRTI”) to facilitate safe and comprehensive practical skills training for emergency service responders and industry workers in the techniques of grain bin engulfment, confined space entrapments, and related emergencies. 7.1 General Specifications • No refurbished or reconditioned trailers • May be a new trailer provided by a commercial vendor and modified to meet these specifications or a new custom designed and built trailer. • Designed and compliant for approved transport on U.S. highways, meeting all DOT requirements pertaining to interstate travel and not subject to any special oversize permitting. • Designed to be transported as one unit towed by an existing over-the road semi-tractor provided by KFRTI, a freightliner M2 112 business crew-cab class semi-tractor (See attachment #2), without modification to the trailer or truck. o Clearances between the front of the trailer and the cab of the vehicle must accommodate both trucks as well as the fifth-wheel connections • Designed to meet applicable nationally recognized training standards for rescue and confined space • Self-contained with the necessary generator and electrical systems for independent operation in remote and rural locations. • Easy to set up before the training begins and easy to tear down after the training is completed o Set up and take down time should not exceed more than thirty (30) minutes each. • Include both a round grain bin and square or rectangular grain hopper with an auger system to transfer product to and from each grain container.
