The City of Burlington is looking to develop a new, co-located facility that consolidates the services provided by the Central Fire Station (136 South Winooski Ave) and Police Station (1 North Ave). The new Public Health and Safety facility should accommodate the current-day needs of our fire, police and public health response system; consider the growth and future needs of the City over the next 50 years; and consider expansion to support regional public health and safety services. Future growth considerations should include the City’s population and densification of housing, anticipate needs for an aging population, and possible adaptations to how the City currently structures its delivery of public health and safety services. Facility design will be a concurrent activity with the City’s ModernGov initiative, which may integrate police and fire into a unified department and add a new division to support public health emergencies.
