A. Bus Drivers • All driver applicants must meet the acceptability requirements set by Kansas state laws. • All drivers must participate in classroom and on-the-road training focused on safety, proper bus operation, rules and regulations, and first aid. • All drivers must complete a defensive driving course certified by the National Safety Council. • Drivers will be reviewed after thirty (30) days of employment and annually thereafter, including a yearly review course on rules, regulations, safety, and first aid. • The Contractor shall conduct background checks on drivers’ criminal records and Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) before hiring, with MVR checks performed at least every six (6) months thereafter. o Background check to include, at a minimum: Driver’s license check from state issued to employee, Kansas Bureau of Investigation search and United States Department of Justice National Sex Offender search. • Drivers must pass a physical examination (including drug screening) before hiring and as required by law. B. Safety Program for Personnel A safety program for personnel will be conducted each month. C. Students • The Contractor must assist the District in providing safety programs as needed for students. • All bus routes, stops, and driver activities must prioritize student safety. • The Contractor must train students on proper boarding, disembarking, bus riding procedures, and evacuation procedures at least twice per year. • The bus driver must continually monitor student behavior to ensure adherence to safe riding procedures, reporting any issues to the District immediately. • The Contractor acknowledges that school administrators may occasionally ride the bus or observe the general operation of the bus service.
