The Parks & Recreation Department established the goal of planting and protecting trees to realize and increase the ecosystem services provided by trees and tree canopy coverage. Specifically, park trees reduce the heat island effects of the built environment, improve surrounding air and water quality, benefit human mental health, reduce stormwater volume and related flooding, increase property values, reduce cooling costs, provide wildlife habitat, and mitigate the impacts of climate change. The purpose of this Invitation to Bid (ITB) is to hire professional support for the maintenance and removal of trees on Newark City properties. The work will be completed at the direction of the Parks and Recreation Department. The contractor(s) selected through this ITB will provide three years of tree pruning, tree removals and tree stump removal services at the quoted rates. The City reserves the right to contract with more than one vendor through this competitive bid process. Consideration will be given to contractor availability in addition to pricing. The services provided will serve two purposes: a. To improve survivorship of trees existing in parks and on all city owned property. b. To serve as part of a larger effort to increase the tree canopy coverage in the city of Newark, DE.
