a. Provide training for the implementation of the DBT Skills in Schools SEL curriculum. Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills have been demonstrated to be effective in helping adolescents manage difficult emotional situations, cope with stress, and make better decisions. Youth mental health problems, including self-harm and suicidal behavior are worsening in Utah. b. Training should include universalsocial emotional learning (SEL) curriculum for middle/high school students in educational settings. c. Help adolescents develop coping strategies and decision-making abilities under emotional distress. d. Training should augment participants’ knowledge and skills to support the mental health needs of their students. e. Training should support the Utah State Board of Education’s Strategic Plan priority 3C (Safe and Healthy Schools): to build the capacity of educators and other stakeholders to meet student’s mental, emotional, and social needs.
